Italy, which has leapt into second place in the world for its plastics and rubber machinery, pays great attention to the Chinese market, and Italian enterprises are investing in China, with the establishment of new plants.

Over the past 20 years, the plastics and rubber industry in China has developed quickly, with an annual growth rate of 10%-40% in output value, making it the fastest development sector in China. Italy, an important partner in this industry, exports a considerable amount of plastics and rubber machinery to China every year. China has been Italy's third biggest export destination country for the past 3 years. According to the statistics from the January--October period of last year, China has become the second biggest, having imported a batch of Italian equipment valued at Euro 820 million.

China's huge market demand has been prompting manufactures of plastics and rubber machinery and grinding tools to China to take part in exhibitions, and make inspections or investments in the establishment of plants. At present, nearly 10 enterprises are settled in Shanghai .

During the period of December 4-7, Chinaplas'03, held at the Beijing International Exhibition Center, attracted over 30 of Italy's top manufacturers of plastics and rubber machinery and grinding tools.
